The Birth Place of Lord Buddha
Lumbini is an important Buddhist pilgrimage center situated about 300 kilometers from Kathmandu and 6-7 hours drive by road. It is the sacred birth place of Lord Buddha and a World Heritage site listed by UNESCO,
Lord Buddha, the light of Asia was born in 623 BC in Lumbini- which is one of the holiest places of one of the world’s great religion, and its remains contain important evidence about the nature of Buddhist pilgrimage centres from a very early period. Lumbini, in the South-Western Terai of Nepal, evokes a kind of holy sentiment to the millions of Buddhists all over the world, like Jerusalem to Christians and Mecca to Muslims.
Depicted first five Precepts (Moral discipline) by Lord Buddha scribed on the stone at Lumbini and which translated version is as under:
- Abstaining from taking life
- Abstaining from taking what is not given
- Abstaining from sexual misconduct
- Abstaining from false speech
- Abstaining from drinks and drugs that cause heedlessness
